MOSCOW (Reuters) – A significant cyber attack was launched against the Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, coinciding with the ongoing BRICS summit in the country, as reported by spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Earlier, Zakharova indicated that the ministry was subjected to a large-scale distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. “This morning, a substantial cyber assault from abroad commenced on the infrastructure of the official website, specifically the portal of the Russian Foreign Ministry,” Zakharova stated.
She emphasized that while the ministry frequently faces such attacks, today’s incident was “unprecedented in scale.” The BRICS summit, which aims to showcase Moscow’s global influence despite Western sanctions, is being held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24.
